Latest Appointments:

THE Leeds office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has boosted its business legal services team within Yorkshire and across the North with the appointment of construction and engineering partner Steven Bate.

Mr Bate joins from DWF in Leeds where he was a partner heading up its Yorkshire construction team.

Whilst he also helps his clients with pre-contract, non-dispute work, Mr Bate is an expert in dispute resolution and avoidance.

The latest move by Irwin Mitchell follows the announcement in March that Julie Morrissy would be joining the firm in Sheffield at the beginning of June 2012.

Mr Bate said: “Irwin Mitchell is recognised as an innovative firm and one that has embraced change in what is and will continue to be a fast-moving legal sector.”

PROPERTY professional Emma Eastwood has been elected as national deputy president of the Junior Chamber International (JCI).

JCI is a volunteer network for people in their 20s and 30s and is active in more than 100 countries. 

Ms Eastwood, who works as an associate director at city living specialists Morgans, was previously JCI’s president for Leeds and is presently the UK’s personnel development director. 

She said: Emma explains: “I joined JCI in 2006 after meeting another member and thinking how interesting it sounded because the organisation provides a fantastic networking platform and offers plenty of opportunities to develop new skills, work with charities and participate in other worthwhile projects. 
“From the outset I thoroughly enjoyed everything about it and I’m delighted to have been appointed to the national board.”

DAVID Sadler has joined Global Autocare as finance and operations director.

Mr Sadler previously spent 15 years as UK and Ireland finance director for Grontmij and he is a past winner of the young finance director of the year category at the Yorkshire Finance Director awards.

Established in 1997, Leeds-based Global Autocare was launched as a vehicle maintenance centre.

The business is now responsible for the management and maintenance of vehicles on behalf of a selection of the UK’s largest leasing companies and operates a 1,000 vehicle daily rentals fleet.

Mr Sadler said: “I am very pleased to be joining Global Autocare at such an exciting time in the company’s evolution. Global is already performing very well and hopefully I will be able contribute to the companies continued development.”

DONCASTER law firm Taylor Bracewell has further expanded its company/commercial department with the addition of consultant solicitor Peter Wright.

Mr Wright is a specialist in digital law issues, including data protection, privacy & security and the law relating to social media and freedom of information.

Sharon Beck, managing partner at Taylor Bracewell, and head of the firm’s commercial department, saad: “We are absolutely delighted that Peter has joined us. He has many strings to his bow and his expertise is second to none.”

LAW firm Clarion has appointed Sarah Bailey as residential conveyancer in its property team.

Ms Bailey joins from Simpson Millar in Leeds where she spent five years as a supervisor in the conveyancing department.

She has also worked for Walker Morris as a conveyancing manager in its plots sales team. 

Martin Grange, partner in Clarion’s property team, said: “Having an experienced residential conveyancer in the team will be a real asset. Sarah’s appointment follows the continuing growth of our property work both as a result of managing the portfolios of private investor clients and also dealing with the property needs of our private client department.”

ENTERTAINMENT venue Alea Leeds has appointed Charles Merchie as venue director. 

Mr Merchie’s role will be to reinforce Alea’s position as one of the city’s leading entertainment and conference venues.  

Most recently, Mr Merchie was general manager at Wood Hall Hotel and Spa in Wetherby, part of the Hand Picked Collection of hotels.
 
He said: “I have a passion for customer service and one of my priorities will be to ensure that all our guests’ expectations are met. That begins in-house by building an excellent team who have the right attitude and a desire to make Alea Leeds the very best experience for everyone who visits.” 
 
Mr Merchie will be responsible for a team of 120.
