Firm in deal to protect Asian online gambling sites

ASIAN-based online gambling and betting sites will soon be protected against malicious attack thanks to Leeds firm Webscreen.

The firm, which specialises in applications that block deliberate systems disruption known as denial of service attacks (DDoS), has signed a contract to supply the IT services division of South East Asia’s fastest growing gambling company AsianLogic (ALL) with its anti-DDoS technology.

ALL operates a number of online casinos tailored mostly to the Asian market offering more than 100 interactive games. These include classic table and card games as well as integrated live vidoestream casino games.

Webscreen is already used by some of the world’s largest gaming and betting companies to stop their web sites from being taken off line by targeted attacks, which are typically timed to coincide with major sporting events and other heavy betting periods.

Its applications stop malicious DDoS by using a unique algorithm that keeps the web site accessible for genuine customers.

Itamar Shamshins, ALL director said:

“We selected Webscreen because of the technology’s proven capability to automatically track and block attack traffic.

“We have been particularly impressed by the software’s reporting capability that enables us to detect smaller daily incidents, denying potential attackers perimeter defence intelligence that could be used to mount a full scale attack.”

DDoS is a rapidly growing threat facing ecommerce businesses that rely on internet connectivity to deliver their core services.

Any web downtime or performance failure can have a major impact on revenues, customer numbers and corporate reputations.

DDoS can also effect any other telecommunication network and is seen as a key network security risk.
