News in brief: Farnell golfs for charity; EmpireDirect MD honored and more

LEEDS-BASED engineering company Farnell has held its annual charity golf event at Leeds Golf Club to help raise money for Epilepsy Research UK.

More than £54,000 has been raised by these events over the last five years.

The event draws in players from all over England and this year Farnell’s new president Andy King and directors Andy Camm and Paul Horton were there to tee off, alongside 60 employees, associates and suppliers of Farnell.

Each hole on the 18-hole picturesque parkland course was sponsored by a supplier for £500.

Barry Fogal, a stock control manager at Farnell and an organiser of the event, said: “We chose Epilepsy Research following the death of a colleague’s son, who died from a seizure caused by epilepsy. The level of involvement that we get from employees and suppliers demonstrates not only a commitment to the charity but also to the company and people that they work with.”
