CML meets ambitious growth plans

CIVIL engineering firm Construction Marine (CML) said it has achieved growth across the whole company and has created new jobs.

The Leeds-based group said it has increased its work force to 175 – more than a 100% increase in the last 18 months. As part of the expansion, CML has opened a new depot at Denaby, near Doncaster, creating an additional 37 new jobs, including machine drivers, bricklayers, civil engineering operatives and welders.

CML said recent investment by Network Rail has accelerated the process as well as a significant increase in the renewal and maintenance division. CML, which has been operating from its Chapel Allerton headquarters for 25 years, carries out railway civil engineering, building and maintenance works.

In the last two years CML has benefitted from Network Rail’s extra investment in improving the railway infrastructure funded by the government. The company has used the opportunity to capitalise and further invest in specialist skills such as rope access training and a new plant to meet Network Rail’s requirements for working near operational railway lines.

Mark Roberts, project manager for Network Rail said: “Working collaboratively with Network Rail, CML has been able to target key delivery challenges and has grown and developed to achieve a professional and focussed team dedicated to delivering quality works safely.”

CML’s managing director, Geoff Mortimer, said: “ It’s a tribute to the hard work and commitment of our staff.”

The firm said the growth was planned to take place before the recession but during the downturn it focussed on its strengths, meeting agreed expansion targets, positioning itself strongly as the UK emerged from recession.
