Last leg of Tour de Baker Tilly to arrive in Leeds

A TEAM of cyclists from accountancy firm Baker Tilly will arrive in Leeds today at the end of a 660-mile nationwide charity bike ride.

The riders on the Tour de Baker Tilly, which set off from London on June 23, will have covered 660 miles in 10 days stopping off at 23 of the firm’s UK offices en route.

Around 300 staff and guests have taken part in the event which has so far raised more than £12,000 for Anthony Nolan and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The volunteer riders have taken part in at least one of 11 legs, with around 30 riders cycling between 50 and 80 miles per day.

Starting in London, the tour has passed through Bromley, Tunbridge Wells, Gatwick, Guildford, Southampton, Basingstoke, Reading, Swindon, Bath, Bristol, Glasgow, Grangemouth, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Preston and will arrive at the firm’s Leeds office in Whitehall Quay at around 5pm today.

Guests participating in the final leg of the tour from Preston to Leeds include Gavin Biggs from Mellors Catering Services, Lucie Barnes from Shulmans, Jonathan Asquez from Gordons, Jamie Allison from Napthens and Lee-J Walker from TheBusinessDesk.com.

The event has been supported by Njinga Cycling who have provided mechanics and on-road support to riders.

Neil Sevitt, a partner at Baker Tilly in Leeds, said: “We’ve had a really enthusiastic response from staff and clients to the inaugural Tour de Baker Tilly, and our riders have given their all over the last 10 days to raise more than £12,000 for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Anthony Nolan – two charities with whom we have a long relationship. We are looking forward to welcoming them on their final push into Leeds where the build-up to the Tour de France is reaching fever pitch.”
