London Stock Exchange’s CEO to visit region

THE re-introduction of regional stock exchanges will be on the agenda for debate when the chief executive of the London Stock Exchange visits Yorkshire to find out more about the region’s economy and discuss the UK financial sector.

Xavier Rolet has been at the head of the UK’s City institution since May 2009.

During Mr Rolet’s visit to the region on October 5, he will meet with brokers and key business leaders to dicuss ways in which business needs to work together to ensure the UK financial sector remains sustainable and to talk about the economic climate.

Financial Leeds will host a lunch for Mr Rolet to meet with business leaders from across the region, in conjunction with stockbroking and investment management firm, Redmayne-Bentley.

Mr Rolet, who will visit Leeds for the first time during his visit, will also address investors at an early evening lecture at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Howard Kew, chief executive of Financial Leeds, said: “We are very pleased to be welcoming Xavier Rolet to Leeds on his first official visit, particularly at a time when there are a variety of views regarding the re-introduction of regional stock exchanges.

“We are particularly pleased to be working with Redmayne-Bentley, at whose request the initial invitation was accepted. We expect strong interest in the lunch which will take place, somewhat fittingly, in a building just opposite the one which originally housed Leeds’ own stock exchange back in the 60’s.”

Keith Loudon, senior partner at Redmayne Bentley Stockbrokers, said: “The London Stock Exchange today is an international firm dealing with global issues and so it is a tremendous occasion for Xavier to visit the region and speak to business leaders and private investors alike.”

Mr Rolet has previously worked for with Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and Dresner Kleinwort Benson, after leaving the French Air Force Academy and attending Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

Prior to joining the London Stock Exchange he was chief executive Lehman Brothers, France.

Further information on the visit and lunch event will be posted on the Financial Leeds website at www.financialleeds.com.
