Gas project plans on show

A PUBLIC exhibition will be launched tomorrow giving further details on a proposed gas processing plant in North Yorkshire.

Oil and gas exploration and production company Moorland Energy claims output from its Ryedale Gas Project (RGP) outside Thornton le Dale could create enough energy to power 1,600 homes.

Moorland Energy wants to build a gas pipeline from a gas well near Ebberston, as well as a gas processing plant outside Thornton le Dale and another pipeline connecting the plant to the National Transmission System.

It also wants to construct a new access road from the A170 to the proposed facility.

However, Moorland has faced opposition from residents living close to the proposed processing plant who believe the scheme could harm the environment, destroy the peace of the village, hit tourism and increase traffic.

Lawrie Erasmus, chief executive of Moorland Energy, said the project’s approval was of “critical importance” to the UK’s energy needs.

The exhibition is being held tomorrow and Friday in Thornton-le-Dale Village Hall.

It follows an earlier exhibition held in March and seeks to explain in greater detail what the economic benefits and environmental impacts of the proposals will be.
