Legal Appointments: Gordons boosts team and more

A round up of legal appointments within the Yorkshire region.
LEEDS and Bradford law firm Gordons has announced the appointment of two new solicitors, Katie Simmonds and Michael Cantwell, who both join the firm from Walker Morris.
Katie Simmonds, 25, joins the commercial property department following two years completing her training at Walker Morris. Katie’s new role will include working on the Wm Morrison account.
Barbara Rollin, partner and head of commercial property commented; “We are very happy to welcome Katie to the department and look forward to working and growing the department with her. She is enthusiastic and fast learning and will be a great asset to the team.”
Michael Cantwell, 29, joins the corporate team at Gordons, after working as a corporate solicitor with Walker Morris for two years. Michael’s new responsibilities will include acquisitions and disposals of businesses and joint ventures.
John Holden, partner and head of corporate law said; “Michael joins Gordons at a time of real growth and success. His previous experience will further enhance the department and we look forward to working with him.”
Established in Bradford in 1844, Gordons opened its Leeds office in 2000. The firm’s turnover for the last financial year was £21.2m – an increase of 13.5% from the previous year’s total – and marks the sixth successive year of growth for the firm.

ANDREW Meehan, senior solicitor and family law specialist at Mills & Reeve, has been appointed as a regional chairperson of Resolution – formerly the Solicitor’s Family Law Association.
Bringing with him years of experience in family law, including divorce, financial settlements and children’s cases, Andrew Meehan will take up the post immediately for the West & North Yorkshire branch – the largest in terms of membership outside London.
Resolution is an organisation of more than 5,000 lawyers who believe in a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters. Its training and development capacities for family lawyers include national and regional training programmes, publications and good practice guides and an accreditation scheme.
The association is the only organisation in the UK that provides training and support for collaborative lawyers in England and Wales and also campaigns for improvements to the family justice system.
