Cellino’s "absolute intention" is to return to Leeds United as ownership saga rumbles on

LEEDS UNITED’S ownership saga continues with new chairman Andrew Umbers saying Massimo Cellino will return when his ban is completed, while the club’s owner is reportedly trying to argue that he doesn’t need to sell his shares to relinquish control.
The Football League banned Mr Cellino following his conviction in an Italian court and prevented him from exerting any influence in the management of the club.
However he is believed to be confident that because the shares are owned in a blind trust, there is no requirement for him to sell them.
A Football League spokesman said: “It is for Leeds United to satisfy the Football League that Massimo Cellino is not acting as a relevant person as defined by its regulations, rather than for the league to dictate how this is achieved. The club will also be required to supply any evidence demanded by the board to support its submissions.”
Mr Umbers said it is Mr Cellino’s “absolute intention” to return to the club and take charge once more.
“He is the steward of this ship. I am the steward of it while he is away, but it is his ship,” he said.
“He is a very good leader and he is passionate about Leeds. He wants to re-engage with fans, the council and the community and he is committed to that.”
