Contracts agreed at £80m Tower Works scheme

THE regeneration of Leeds’ South Bank has received its second boost in a matter of days after developers Carillion announced it has signed the contract to deliver the £80m Tower Works scheme.

It comes after last week’s purchase of the former Tetley Brewery site by Vastint in a £40m-plus deal.
Carillion was selected as the preferred partner by the Homes and Communities Agency in March.
The mixed-use scheme, at Tower Works in Holbeck Urban Village, will incorporate the three grade II-listed Italianate Towers as part of the masterplan. The proposals include 90,000 sq ft of commercial office space, 24,000 sq ft of retail, restaurant and bar spaces and family housing.
Carillion chief executive Richard Howson said: “We have developed a vision for the regeneration of one of the most important landmark sites in Leeds that will create a sustainable community, which meets the aspirations of all stakeholders.”
The scheme will be submitted for planning approval shortly and is scheduled to begin on site next spring.
