Surgical specialist looks to boost exports

SURGICAL instrument manufacturer Downs Surgical has welcomed senior Government consultants from around the world as it seeks to strengthen its relationships with key export partners.

The company, which is based in Sheffield, hosted a number of senior Government consultants, distributors and international partners from Japan, Egypt, Kuwait, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and New Zealand.

The visit allowed Downs Surgical to update the officials on the wide range of unique surgical instruments that it manufactures, which includes ENT surgery, cardiovascular, obstetrics and gynaecology equipment.

Visiting the company from Kuwait were two top Government doctors, who specialise in Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and work in a consultancy role for the Kuwait Ministry of Health.

A key distributor from Saudi Arabia also visited the company this month to discuss details of a recent tender awarded to Downs Surgical by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health.

The tender will see Downs Surgical appointed to provide surgical instruments covering ENT, gynaecology, obstetrics and general plastics.

International business manager Steve Spurgin said: “Building strong international relationships is the key to a successful business and international liaison is a key priority for us.

“Over recent months we have met with a number of key international representatives from across the globe and I have been delighted with the success of these meetings. We are looking forward to working even closer with these countries in the future.”

Downs Surgical currently exports to more than 70 countries including the Middle East, Europe, Australia and the Far East.

The company is the UK’s premier surgical instrument manufacturer.
