New £2.7m social housing project for Burley-in-Wharfedale
CASTLEFORD-based building contractors, Strategic Team Group, has started work on a £2.7m redevelopment project in Burley-in-Wharfedale to provide much needed affordable homes in the area.
The Lawn, which has been commissioned by Incommunities (formerly Bradford Community Housing Trust), previously provided sheltered bedsit accommodation but is being completely rebuilt and refurbished by Strategic Team Group.
The stone development will provide some 14 new apartments while a second standalone block is being built to create a further 15 new apartments for older people, with the units available for shared ownership and for rent.
Associated services, parking and landscaped areas will also be incorporated into the development, which is due for completion in summer 2009.
Works at The Lawn, includes the conversion of the existing building and reclamation of materials followed by the construction of a single block, housing the new apartments.
Ken Nicholson, director of Incommunities’ development and regeneration said: “This major development will provide much needed affordable homes for local people and also offer a choice of tenure.
“It is a landmark building in the village and we are delighted that the Strategic Team Group is bringing its expertise to delivering this high quality conversion.”

Strategic Team Group recently completed a development of affordable homes on Norwood Avenue in Burley-in-Wharfedale on behalf of Incommunities, which included the construction of a single two storey block providing four apartments and services.
