Leeds station drops out of the UK top 10

LEEDS railway station has dropped down two places to be the 12th busiest in the UK despite seeing a 4% increase in passengers.
28.8m people used the station in the year to March, new data released by the Office for Road and Rail (ORR) has shown, as it comfortably retains its ranking as the busiest station in the north of England. Manchester Piccadilly is second, with 24.6m passengers.
Leeds’ figures will have been boosted by the Tour de France, when nearly a quarter-of-a-million people used the station on Grand Depart Saturday in July 2014. The station received an average of 79,000 passengers a day.
However, a 4.6m increase at Stratford in East London means that nine of the 10 busiest stations are in London, while Glasgow Central also leapfrogged Leeds.
The busiest station in the country is Waterloo, with 99.2m passengers, while Birmingham New Street is the most-used outside the capital with 35.3m.
Yorkshire’s top five remains unchanged, with Leeds followed by Sheffield, in 41st place nationally, York (43) Huddersfield (86) and Doncaster (128). Bradford Interchange (181) is the region’s only other station in the top 200.
