No horsing around for Yorkshire supercar entrepreneurs as sales reach £37m

Two Yorkshire businessmen are celebrating after selling £37m worth of supercars and horseboxes in just 12 months.

Business partners Alexander Brimelow and Andrew North, who together run Alexanders Horseboxes and Alexanders Prestige in Boroughbridge sold around 400 supercars in the past year.

In comparison, the combined companies had sales of £29m in 2014, and £17m in 2013, showing an upward trajectory for the growing group, which has plans to reach £45m revenues in 2016.

The pair are also behind Ripon-based Harvey Cooper Cars, which launched in 2013.

They have made inroads in international expansion, having sold horseboxes to Australia and cars to South Africa during the period.

Alexanders Horseboxes have become exclusive dealers for the high-end Lehel horse transporters, and the company counts the rich and famous among their automotive customers, including World number one Show Jumper Scott Brash.

According to the company, the most popular models in the automotive division were the new Range Rover Sport, followed closely by Porsche 911s. In July, a 458 Ferrari sold for £250,000.

Yarm-based Andrew North said: “It’s been an incredible year, especially for the supercar side of the business, with August being the busiest month we’ve had since we started the business ten years ago. Forty five cars left the showroom that month and when you consider these vehicles range from rare Ferraris to top-spec Range Rovers, it soon adds up.

“We’ve got regular customers based as far away as Aberdeen and Plymouth and this year we delivered a rare 360 Challenge Stradale Ferrari out to a client in South Africa.”

“The business has grown every year since Alex and I established it and it’s largely down to the customer service we offer and the quality of our stock but there’s also been a change in the used car market – especially at the prestige end.

“Our client base has continued to grow too, and this year new customers accounted for 40 per cent of the sales. This shows great promise for the future of the business as it’s our aim to look after our customers well enough so that 100 per cent of them return to us the next time they buy or sell a car.”

The company employs 55 people across its operations.
