First images released of mixed-use scheme on former Footprint Tools site

THE first images of a mixed-used student residential development on the former Footprint Tools site in Sheffield City Centre have been unveiled.

Brookfield Student Real Estate (BSRE) said it is close to submitting proposals for the scheme on Hollis Croft, just off Broad Lane.

The development includes accommodation for around 1000 residents in a combination of apartments and studios across four buildings, the tallest of which is an 18-storey tower at the southern end of the site, bordering Broad Lane.

Tim Butler, CEO of BSRE said: “BSRE invests in purpose built student accommodation across regional cities in the UK. Sheffield stands out because of its flourishing student population and the strength of its two world-leading universities. We are looking forward to growing our presence in the city and believe there will be a strong demand for our new high-quality property, which we will develop and then operate.

“We’re excited about this opportunity to revive the former Footprint Tools site, which is in need of regeneration and is no longer utilised for its original manufacturing purposes. Our proposals will not only provide much-needed new accommodation, but will contribute to the wider rejuvenation of this part of the city by providing attractive public spaces, new amenities and improved pedestrian routes in and around the site.”

Prior to the submission of a planning application, the development team is hosting a public consultation event today at the Croft House Centre on Garden Street from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

Subject to planning, demolition is scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2016 with first completions of new units by September 2018.

The Sheffield-based team behind the development includes HLM Architects and DLP Planning.
