Leeds group hands over warehouse to Amazon

LEEDS-BASED project managers Projex Building Solutions have completed and handed over what they say is the largest new warehousing facility to be built in the UK this year.

Projex has provided project management, cost consultancy and health and safety monitoring services for the £100m development which was completed in 10 months.

Constructed by Winvic, the unit measures 1,600 ft by 650 ft, covers an area the equivalent of 20 football pitches and has 86 docks for articulated lorries.

The 1 million sq ft distribution centre in Coalville in Leicestershire has been developed by Mountpark Logistics for retail giant Amazon

The site will create at least 2,000 jobs say developers, and is only the first phase of a larger industrial park that Mountpark is developing in the next six months. A 300,000 sq ft warehouse is due for completion in October 2016 and another 60,000 sq ft facility due for completion in March 2017, subject to planning.

Amazon has been investing in its regional warehousing capabilities, having created 500 jobs earlier this year at the Doncaster iPort.
