Luxury hotel property owner in administration

THE property company that owns the building housing Yorkshire’s newest luxury hotel has gone into administration.

Directors of Pantin Hotels, which runs the Ellington in Leeds, have said that their business is not in financial difficulties following the collapse of City Retreats, which owns the hotel property in York Place.

However founder David Pantin and his colleagues are working with administrators MCR to try to find a buyer for the property.

In a statement today, Pantin Hotels said: “Pantin Hotels, as the hotel’s operating company, does not have any equity in the building and is not itself in financial difficulties. Pantin Hotels is working with the administrators to try and find a buyer for the property. In the meantime, The Ellington continues to trade.”

A spokeswoman for Pantin Hotels said she was unable to confirm whether City Retreats also owns the building housing Floridita, the Cuban-themed nightclub operated by Pantin Hotels on Lower Briggate and the building that the hotel company had earmarked for a second luxury hotel in Leeds called The Crispin bordering York Road to the north of the city centre.

The Ellington has 35 rooms and its 56-seater restaurant which is a collaboration with renowned chef Albert Roux, who is overseeing the classic modern menu.

The Ellington is one of only six properties in Britain to be a member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World and the first in England outside London.

Published rates start from £190 for a classic double bedroom.

Mr Pantin was previously managing director of The Rocco Forte Collection and chairman of Dawnay Shore Hotels.
