In Brief: Dewsbury firm expansion plans; Architectural competition gets global interest;

DEWSBURY-based Sewtec Automation has announced a £500,000 expansion and upgrade of its premises to meet growing demand.

The firm, which specialises in automated solutions for the process and packaging industries, plans to increase its site by 10,000sq ft, which will include increased office accommodation for administration, control/ electrical engineers, and design staff.

Sufficient overcapacity is being built into all areas of the factory to allow for a current recruitment drive for additional skilled personnel.

Managing director Bernard Meehan said: “This investment programme will ensure that we are well placed to respond quickly to develop equipment and systems to meet specific customer requirements.”

YORK- based DWA Architects has launched a Caring for Older People
Competition for architectural students around the world in partnership
with the Royal Institute of British Architects and Bupa Care Services.

According to DWA chief executive David Ward entries have been received from as far afield as Singapore, the US, Albania, Germanby and Hong Kong.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the interest so far,” he said.
