Yorkshire business leaders look to the future

YORKSHIRE’S most high profile business people are gathering to debate the future health of the region’s economy at the ‘2012 –A View Into the Future’ event hosted by accountants and business advisors, BDO Stoy Hayward.

The event, taking place at Aspire in Leeds on Tuesday, will look forward to 2012 and will highlight what’s in store for Yorkshire’s businesses, and what effect the recession will have on the future prospects of businesses in the region.

‘Historian of the future’ and leading authority on forward strategy, Dr James Bellini will be guest speaker at the event. Previously holding executive positions in advertising and corporate communications, Dr Bellini has also served on the European Advisory Board of the global future forum before being elected Fellow of the World Innovation Foundation. He is also a respected TV broadcaster and published author.

A panel of Yorkshire’s leading businessmen will also be on hand to answer questions during the evening from the audience and debate as to what state Yorkshire will emerge from the recession to face the future.

The panel will be made up of Stephen Martin, chief executive of Clugston Group, David Jackson, chief executive of Redhall Group, David Maybury, regional director of Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank, and Mark Hunt, head of business assurance at the Leeds office of BDO Stoy Hayward.

A series of topical questions will also be posed during the evening to the audience to gauge their thoughts and opinions, with live voting taking place throughout the evening.

Ian Beaumont, managing partner at BDO Stoy Hayward, based at Bridgewater Place in Leeds, said: “Yorkshire’s businesses are currently experiencing challenging times but the event aims to throw our attentions forward to what the future has in store. During the evening, with the help of Dr James Bellini and our panel, we aim to make predications and provide insight, whilst also stimulating debate amongst senior peers from Yorkshire’s leading business community.”

BDO Stoy Hayward published its third annual Yorkshire Report earlier this year which looked at the performance of Yorkshire’s top 150 companies. The report revealed that the region’s prudent nature is paying off in the downturn but BDO Stoy Hayward’s forecasts reveal that it will be a long haul before things improve.
