Ellis Patents goes offshore in Africa

ELLIS Patents has secured a deal to supply its Emperor stainless steel cable cleats for use in the Aseng oil field development off the coast of Equatorial Guinea.

The Rillington-based manufacturer’s cleats will be used by SBM Offshore for its floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO), Aseng, which is under construction at the Keppel Shipyard in Singapore.

Ellis Patents’ Emperor cable cleats are designed to fix, retain and support cablesEllis Patents' cable cleats and withstand the highest levels of short circuits.

Tony Conroy, Ellis Patents’ export sales manager, said: “The oil and gas industry is a key focus for our export business and in order to be successful in this market you need to have a truly global approach.

“As such, we have specialist distributors in the Middle East, Asia, South America, Australia, Kazakhstan and the United States, with whom we work closely in order to ensure our name and products are to the fore whenever this kind of project comes online.”

This approach has proved successful for Ellis Patents, with repeat orders for elements of the Kashagan project in Kazakhstan, and major orders for an FPSO and floating production unit for use in Brazil’s Peregrino and Roncador fields respectively.

The FPSO Aseng is a $600m joint venture between SBM Offshore and Compania Nacional de Petrole de Guinea Ecuatorial (GE Petrol), the state oil company of Equatorial Guinea.

When complete it will be operated offshore for Noble Energy.
