Kitchen caddy deal for Straight

RECYCLING and services group Straight has secured a contract to provide kitchen caddy food waste containers to more than 150,000 Hertfordshire households.

The deal, which is worth £150,000 to the Leeds-based firm, will see Straight supply five and seven litre kitchen caddies as part of an effort to encourage homeowners to separate food waste in their kitchen for collection at the kerbside and subsequent composting.

Chief executive Jonathan Straight said that although the deal was modest in value it covered around a third of households in Hertfordshire and would help reduce food waste sent to landfill.

“This contract also highlights the desire amongst local authorities to encourage householders to play an active role in separating food waste at the kerbside, which is now seen by WRAP, the Government funded Waste & Resources Action Programme, as a preferred approach to recycling household waste,” he added.

Earlier this month Straight, which provides products including water butts, chewing gum bins and compost containers, said that growth of its core trade business had been boosted by recent acquisition Harcostar and progress in corporate and overseas markets.

In May, it completed a new £400,000 contract to provide recycling equipment for 80,000 homes for Oldham Metropolitan Council.

The agreement, to supply seven-litre kitchen caddies and 23-litre kerbside caddies for food waste collection from 80,000 homes, was delivered in four phases.
