Latest Appointments: New president for Sheffield Law Society, Board change at Fusion IP and more

SHEFFIELD and District Law Society has appointed a commercial litigation lawyer as its new president.
Paul Clarke, a partner at law firm Taylor&Emmet, takes over the position from current president, Frances Woodhead.
Mr Clarke will join Chris Fry from Wake Smith, and Julia Watkinson from Wrigleys at the society, which aims to represent the interests of the city’s legal profession.
Mr Clarke said: “My challenge this year will be to build on Frances’ good work and to reach out to lawyers who may, in the past, have felt under-represented, such as those working in industry or the public sector.
“Our aim is to put Sheffield’s legal community at the heart of the city’s economy and we have the people to achieve that.”

FUSION IP, the university intellectual property commercialisation company, has announced that a board member is stepping down from his position.
Dr Edwin Moses will stand down from his role as non-executive director with immediate effect, to concentrate on other business commitments.
Doug Liversidge, chairman of Fusion IP, said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Edwin for his valuable and significant contribution to the company since the IPO in 2005.
“I would like to thank him for his support and advice and wish him every success for the future.”
The Sheffield-based firm, which has a 10-year agreement with the University of Sheffield, turns university research into businesses and has a portfolio of spin-out companies specialising in fields ranging from vaccination to renewable energy.

LEEDS-based shower tray manufacturer, Just Trays (JT), has strengthened its marketing team with the appointment of a new sales and marketing director.
John Schofield joins the firm with previous experience in similar companies, having held positions with shower manufacturer A & J Gummer, and bathroom supplies company, Masco Group.
Mr Schofield will be responsible for developing marketing and strategy as the company aims to expand sales and build relationships with existing customer’s to increase sales and market share for the JT brand.
Managing director Paul Crossley said: “John is a great addition and is already proving to be a real asset to the company.”

A SOLICITOR from a Yorkshire law firm has been appointed by the Lord Chancellor to become a part-time member of the newly formed Tax Tribunal.
Ann Christian, a private client lawyer at Last Cawthra Feather in Bradford, will hear appeals by both organisations and individuals in disputes over such issues as income tax, corporation tax and VAT.
Formed in April, the Tax Tribunal was established as an independent body to hear appeals against tax decisions made by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.
