Gazeley to develop Yorkshire logistics hub

GAZELEY, a provider of sustainable logistics space, is to build a major logistics hub in Doncaster which could create 1,700 jobs.

Gazeley has bought the 100 acre site at West Moor Park for an undisclosed sum from Blue Anchor Leisure.

Outline planning permission was granted by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council in December 2009 for around 1.5m sq ft of industrial, distribution and incorporated office accommodation over three large warehouses.

When developed, the scheme is expected to create in the region of 1,700 warehousing, office and managerial jobs within the locality. The completed value of the scheme is estimated to reach around £100m.

The major site is adjacent to the earlier phases of West Moor Park which have attracted tenants including Ikea, Scotts Miracle-–Gro and Next.

Nigel Dolan, development manager at Gazeley, said: “This highly sought-after site is an excellent addition to our growing portfolio and will further enhance our presence in a key logistics region in the UK.

“South Yorkshire is home to some of the UK’s leading distribution facilities and we can deliver bespoke, high quality logistics accommodation on a design and build basis for occupiers who want to capitalise on the site’s key location. The potential for job creation is immense and we look forward to opening negotiations with occupiers.”

Gazeley is jointly represented by CB Richard Ellis and Jones Lang LaSalle – both now retained to market the site.

Roger Haworth, senior director at CB Richard Ellis, said: “West Moor Park has a proven track record as a well located logistics hub in South Yorkshire which is evidenced by its high profile occupiers and the recent expansion of Next within the earlier phase of the park.

“With the recent flurry of major industrial deals reducing take-up of plus 400,000 sq ft stock in the region such as Amazon at Vulcan in Doncaster Debenhams in Leeds and ASOS at Crossflow in Barnsley, now is an excellent time for Gazeley to make this significant acquisition.

“Moving ahead into 2011, Gazeley will be in a prime position to capitalise on returning enquiries for large, well-linked industrial accommodation.”
