Departures and arrivals at Spice

LEEDS-based utilities group Spice has appointed two new non-executive directors (NED) to its board.

Chartered accountant Martin Towers joins the group from Kelda, where he was finance director.

Mr Towers was previously finance director of Allied Textile Companies and Spring Ram Corporation.

He is currently a NED of RPC Group and KCOM and has previously served as a NED of Homestyle Group.

Mr Towers will assume chairmanship of the group’s risk committee and will become a member of the audit committee after Spice’s annual general meeting in August.

Julie Baddeley is Spice’s second NED appointment. Ms Baddeley is currently a NED of Greggs, Camelot and the Department of Health.

She also served as a NED of Yorkshire Building Society, ComputerLand UK and the BOC Group.

She has held senior executive roles at Accenture and the Woolwich, where she had main board responsibility for IT and HR.

Ms Baddeley is an associate fellow at Oxford University where she lectures on business transformation and culture change.

She will assume the chairmanship of the group’s remuneration committee and will become a member of the nominations committee.

Separately John Taylor, NED and deputy chairman of Spice, has notified the board of his decision to retire as a director.

Peter Cawdron, non-executive chairman, said: “I am delighted to welcome Martin and Julie to the board of Spice as non-executive directors.

“On behalf of the board, I would also like to thank John for his contribution over 11 years at Spice. He has been a long servant of Spice, initially as chairman and more recently as deputy-chairman, over which time he has overseen significant growth in, and development of the group’s operations.”

He added: “John leaves with the best wishes and thanks of everyone at Spice and we wish him well for the future.”
