Abandoned water treatment works sold for development

HORSFORTH waste water treatement works has been sold to Delap Developments for an undisclosed sum.

The 7.6 acre brownfield site is within the green belt but has a lengthy frontage to the A65 Kirkstall Road and lies adjacent to The Forge – a major mixed use development by Commercial Estates Group.

Agents for the sale DTZ said the site was abandoned in 1991 following the completion of new sewage works.

The redundant facility was transferred to Keyland Developments, a sister company of Yorkshire Water Services within the Kelda Group.

The majority of former operational buildings and structures have been demolished and the site offers potential long term opportunities for mixed use development including the provision of employment space, or residential accommodation.

Philip Roebuck, director at DTZ, said: “Despite the current downturn in the development sector and the economy generally, the profile of this strategic site and the long-term opportunities that it presents attracted interest from a wide range of parties and should prove a good investment over the long term.”
