Insolvency update event announced

A FREE seminar aimed at helping professionals involved in advising potentially insolvent businesses is being held by hlw mccombie.
The firm will host the morning event on July 28 at its Leeds office. Delegates will learn about when to consider a ‘pre-pack’ to try to salvage the successful parts of a company and how to reduce the risk of being accused of wrongful trading as well as outlining the dangers of using dividends instead of salary.
It will run from 8.15am to 9.30am and also deal with the problem of prohibited names of companies as set out in Section 216 of the Insolvency Act 1986.
David Guest, partner of hlw mccombie’s insolvency department who will chair the presentation, said: “The last few months of economic downturn have already thrown up numerous cases where companies thought they were doing the right thing in finding new solutions for troubled businesses, only to end up falling foul of the law.
“No one likes having to give advice about insolvency, but the existing laws have thrown up a number of conundrums, which mean that means companies in distress are likely to be seeking professional advice. We will explain exactly what the rights and wrongs are in plain English.”
Two other Partners at hlw Ron Whitlam and Ashley Wood will also be taking part in the discussion. To reserve a place, please email yasmina@hlwmccombie.co.uk.
