Jet2.com owner sees profits soar

JET2.COM owner Dart Group has seen its pre-tax profits climb as the budget airline continues its popularity ascent.
Profit before tax for the year ended March 31 grew from £11.8m to £33.5m. Turnover grew marginally from £429m to £439m.
Late last year Jet2.com started to introduce a wider range of leisure sun routes from Leeds and Manchester although the economic downturn saw it cut some summer city routes and discontinue winter destinations.
The group’s tour operator, Jet2holidays.com, grew more slowly than hoped for with 36,128 passengers in the year (2007/8, 34,339).
Its freight operations continue to deliver a significant revenue stream in particular the night flights for Royal Mail on ‘Quick Change’ aircraft.
Dart Group, headed by chairman and chief executive Philip Meeson, owns Jet2.com which flies from Belfast, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle airports and has 30 aircraft.
It also operates the Fowler Welch-Coolchain logistics operations.
