Yorkshire’s print industry looks to the future

THE innovation and resilience of Yorkshire’s printing and design industry has been celebrated with the launch of a new publication.
Members of the region’s print and design sectors gathered at Bowcliffe Hall at Bramham to hear Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber, Rosie Winterton, congratulate the printing industry in Yorkshire for its innovation, resilience and industriousness.
The Minister was speaking at an event organised by Print Yorkshire to celebrate the Yorkshire printing industry on Yorkshire Day and with more than 80 attendees from all aspects of the industry it was a fitting tribute to the industry.
The Minister was introduced by Print Yorkshire president Victor Watson and other speakers included Stuart McFarlane of Yorkshire Forward and Shane Tattersall of Attik who presented their publication Noise which celebrates design and print in Yorkshire.
The publication was printed by Evolution Print in Sheffield and finished and bound by Hammond Bindery in Wakefield and Riley Dunn and Wilson in Huddersfield.
The Minister congratulated Yorkshire Forward for recognising and supporting the printing industry in Yorkshire and Print Yorkshire for bringing together the industry.
She commented on the necessity, even these difficult times, for companies to ensure that their employees had the skills not only for today but also to respond to the challenges of tomorrow.
Robert McClements, Print Yorkshire chief executive, said: “It was fantastic that the Minister was able to see the printing industry in Yorkshire at this celebration.
“The fact that so many senior people from the industry turned out to support the industry was heart-warming and shows depth of support that Print Yorkshire and the BPIF have in the region. And even the weather was kind to us!”
