Debenhams says ‘I do’ to UK General’s wedding product

A YORKSHIRE company has signed a deal with Debenhams for the retailer to sell its wedding insurance package in 25 stores.
UK General Insurance believes the insurance product is the first ‘off the shelf’ wedding-related policy to be launched in the UK.
Darren Smith, development manager for Leeds-based UK General, said: “Debenhams are already a recognised supplier of wedding products and can now offer the bride and groom to be a personal touch when buying their wedding insurance policy.
“As a specialist insurer we have worked with Debenhams to develop a product that is not available anywhere else in the marketplace.”
Customers can purchase insurance in store with a choice of four levels of cover from £5,000 to £30,000 cancellation.
The insurance also includes cover for rearrangement fees, wedding attire, rings, photographers, cakes, flowers and other items.
Scott Fitzgerald, Debenhams’ senior personal finance manager, said: “As a recognised supplier of wedding products we wanted to supply a complete in store wedding solution.
“UK General worked in partnership with us to understand our customers requirements and have developed a product that fits perfectly with their needs.
“All customers automatically qualify for insurance when creating a wedding list to cover loss or damage to these items; however they can now purchase a more comprehensive wedding insurance policy in store and activate their policy when they get home.“
The Debenhams store at The White Rose Centre in Leeds is one of the 25 stores currently trialing the insurance before a UK wide launch.
UK General offers bespoke personal and commercial lines niche insurance products.
