ELECTRONICS Yorkshire, the organisation supporting the electronics industry in Yorkshire and Humber, is organising two one-day courses in January focusing on sustainable development.

The new 'bite-size' tutorials at Electronics Yorkshire's headquarters in Leeds are being lead by industry expert Professor Martin Goosey and environmental consultants Mark Shayler and Dr Leigh Holloway.

The first tutorial is 'Eco-design of Electronics', on January 22, and the second is 'Environmentally Aware Electronics Manufacturing', which is being presented on January 23.

The courses form part of Electronics Yorkshire's expanded Envirotronix programme of activity, aimed at helping companies in the Yorkshire and Humber region achieve best practice in regard to environmental issues. It is a unique approach to environmental compliance and includes a range of tailored support activity covering all aspects of Sustainable Development that affect electronics businesses from design to end-of-life.

The tutorials will provide attendees with vital information and help with product design, manufacturing processes, packaging, legislation compliance, energy use and waste minimisation and treatment. Delegates will benefit from expert advice on sustainability issues which can be approached in a cost-effective and beneficial way to both the company and the environment.

Many companies have already taken advantage of Electronics Yorkshire's dedicated Envirotronix programme of environmental support activity and Dave Williams, business development manager, commented: "By taking a proactive approach to sustainable development and compliance these companies have demonstrated that they can actually save money and achieve a commercial advantage. It is clear that non-compliance is not an option, which is why

Electronics Yorkshire is offering to help enable businesses to adapt to the challenges of sustainable development."

Interested companies can find more information on the courses by visiting the Electronics Yorkshire web site at: www.electronicsyorkshire.org.uk or by contacting Dave Williams on 0113 274 4250 to arrange an informal meeting to discuss individual needs.
