Gas gadget set to save lives

AN INNOVATIVE product designed to enhance the safety of worked in the hospitality industry has been launched by Analox.

The Stokesley-based firm, which provides gas analysers, has launched Aspida – a gas analyser that can detect both high CO2 levels and low O2 levels.

The product is designed to minimise the risks to staff working with potentially fatal gases involved in beer and soft drink gas systems.

Exposure to high levels of CO2 can lead to dizziness, confusion and ultimately unconsciousness. Low O2 levels can lead to headaches, shortness of breath and nausea, and eventually unconsciousness and death.

One unique feature of the new analyser is the ‘man down’ alarm, which is activated if the unit detects no movement.

If the wearer does not respond to an initial alert by the unit, it will sound a 110 decibel alarm to alert others in the building.

Mark Lewis, manaing director of Analox said that a number of incidents had raised awareness of the risks involved with gases used in the hospitality industry.

“These gases can’t be detected by human senses so without technology such as this potentially fatal situations would go undetected. In the case of a serious gas leak the Aspida is designed to save lives.”
