Terroir ‘pips’ rivals to prestigious wine accolade

SKIPTON-based wine merchant Terroir Languedoc has beaten off much larger rivals to be named the International Wine Challenge Specialist Merchant of the Year.
The Sud de France sponsored awards follow a rigorous judging process that ensures the winning merchant demonstrates exceptional quality and outstanding achievement in customer service.
Isabelle Kanaan, Sud de France food and wine ambassador, said: “This award is a powerful endorsement of excellence in the wine retail trade.
“Sud de France has been delighted to work with Terroir Languedoc this year to raise UK trade and consumer awareness of the outstanding wines of Languedoc-Roussillon, and we look forward to developing this relationship further.”
Terroir founder Gemma Crangle said that her firm together with the Sud de France team were working hard to promote the wine producing region, which until recently had fallen out of favour with connoisseurs.
“We are changing people’s perceptions of wines from Languedoc Roussillon – one of the world’s oldest and most innovative wine growing regions,” she added.
Ms Crangle set up Terroir in 2003 following time spent in the buying department of Corney & Barrow.
The company supplies private customers and restaurants and is the sole UK agent for the majority of producers it represents.
