Gay pride for Pinsents
PINSENT Masons has become the first gay-friendly law firm in the UK.
The international firm, which has 270 partners and more than 1,000 lawyers and one of its main offices in Leeds, is to be listed on gay charity Stonewall's
Workplace Equality Index, which showcases Britain's top 100 employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.
The 2008 index also names Pinsent Masons as Most Improved Employer, following a year of initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting diversity across the firm.
The award for 'Most Improved Employer' was be received by Pinsent Masons' director of HR and learning, Jonathan Bond, at a champagne reception at the London Transport Museum on Wednesday evening.
Mr Bond commented: “We are delighted to be the first law firm to be recognised on the Workplace Equality Index, which reflects the importance we attach to our diversity agenda and the progress we have made on it. The progress has been assisted considerably by the support provided by Stonewall's Diversity Champions Programme.”
The employers were ranked according to criteria ranging from implementation of effective equality policies to practical demonstration of good practice in recruitment and mentoring and how they engage with lesbian and gay staff, customers and service users.
Stonewall is a charity that works to achieve equality and justice for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people.
