THE developers behind Gateway Plaza in Barnsley have reported record lettings success with 28 of the luxury apartments snapped up in one month alone.

The team is now offering to pay the administration fees for people who sign up to rent an apartment at the Plaza before the end of May.

Following early commercial success with the establishment of the NHS Health Centre and Whitbread’s 110 bed Premier Inn hotel, Table Table restaurant and Glass House pub, the development went on to seal a major deal with Barnsley Council at the end of last year which has resulted in full occupation of the offices element of the scheme.

Developers Quest Property and Landmark Development Projects have since focused their attention on the remaining retail units and available apartments.

WHEN Westgate Studios ceased trading last year, the artists occupying space in the Grade II Listed Prudential Building on Westgate in Wakefield city centre faced losing their valued studio space.

However the building’s owner, Classic Properties, part of Barnsley-based Quest Property, teamed up with artists Paula Tod and Ian Smith to find a solution by renting space to artists on an individual basis.

Matthew Stephens from Classic Properties said: “The arrangement demonstrates that through open dialogue, landlords and tenants can work together to the benefit of all parties.”

Allott Associates is acting on behalf of Classic Properties to market three available artists’ studios across the second and third floors which range from 70 to 250sq ft at a rent of £95 to £167 per month. Four office suites ranging from 238sq ft to 3,523sq ft on the first floor are also available.

A NATIONALLY  recognised scheme that acknowledges good landlords in Leeds is to be the first to be run through a private and public sector partnership.

Leeds City Council’s Leeds Landlord Accreditation scheme (LLAS), which acknowledges good property management standards for all types of private rented properties across the city, is to be run by RLAAS under a five year contact.

This is the first time a local authority with such a well established accreditation scheme has chosen to work with the private sector.

It aims to build meaningful partnerships with the private sector and keep the scheme going whilst also making savings for the council.
