Onyx makes move into Yorkshire

TECHNOLOGY group Onyx has made a major investment in Yorkshire with the purchase of a data centre.
The company has bought the 22,000 sq ft centre near Rotherham to take advantage of the roll out of superfast broadband in South Yorkshire through the Digital Region project.
Teesside-based Onyx, which provides IT services to business, adds the Rotherham facility to others in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle as well as a data centre opened in North Yorkshire earlier this year.
Chief executive Neil Stephenson said: “It takes us into a new geography, and expands our data centre capabilities across the UK.
“Owning five data centres provides us with a unique advantage over competitors and it enhances our ability in meeting the data needs of larger enterprise businesses.
“Expanding into South Yorkshire has been an important goal for Onyx as it is home to a number of high profile, global companies with an experienced and skilled workforce.
“The region is at the forefront of the ‘Digital Britain’ agenda and is ideal for start-up high growth companies – it is exactly where we want and need to be.”
