Leeds City Region: McLean calls for action

WORDS must be matched by action if the Leeds City Region is to achieve its potential, according to local enterprise chairman Neil McLean.

In an interview for TheBusinessDesk.com’s new supplement on the Leeds City Region, Mr McLean warns that the area has become over reliant on the legal and financial sectors.

His wide ranging comments can be read in full in the supplement, in association with DLA Piper and Santander, which is available to download from today.

Mr McLean, who also reiterates his views in a video which can be watched below and on TheBusinessDesk.tv, says: “It won’t be easy. Leeds has in some ways talked about its position for years and years but has performed economically below that.

“Leeds has done well legally and financially but relied too much on that and not focused on other sectors enough.

“We have been going along nicely but we have been telling ourselves that we are a great international city. We have to be harshly realistic.

“Other cities have made it easier to do business, that has put people off. I don’t really think we have been hungry for business.”
