Kingstown Furniture invests in the future

KINGSTOWN Furniture, one of the UK’s leading manufacturer of ready assembled bedroom and lounge furniture, has invested in new equipment for its Hull based factory.

The new equipment includes sophisticated handling, drilling, gluing and insertion equipment and reflects Kingstown’s continued commitment to investing in British manufacturing.

Richard Sharp, managing director for Kingstown Furniture, said: “We have always taken the view that continuous investment is an absolute necessity to enable us to meet the demands of the retail market in terms of capacity, quality and the flexibility to produce to order.

“We are committed to manufacturing in the UK for the long term and this type of investment will ensure we remain at the forefront of British manufacturing, benefitting our retailers and consumers alike.”

The new equipment is designed to operate on a ‘just in time’ basis while maintaining absolute consistency and quality.

It forms part of Kingstown’s investment programme for 2009, which will also see the expansion of its own delivery fleet, new machinery for the manufacture of drawer fronts and upgrades to IT systems to facilitate even more administrative and manufacturing efficiencies.

The firm, which has more than 30 years’ experience of furniture manufacture and an annual turnover of £26m, operates with great care for the environment and was recently presented with a Bronze National Recycling Star Award.

The business can produce in excess of 300,000 units each year, with more than half being delivered direct to the consumer’s home on Kingstown’s own delivery fleet.
