Forgemasters starts search for apprentices

SIXTEEN new specialist apprentice training roles are to be created by Sheffield Forgemasters later this year.
The aim is to recruit a tranche of candidates to cover key roles across the company’s divisions, providing skilled trades for successful school and college leavers.
Roles available include moulders/core-makers, maintenance fitters, metrologists, welders, pattern makers, laboratory chemists and production operatives.
Forgemasters has a long history of providing skilled apprenticeships and recently won the large employer category at the Yorkshire and the Humber Apprenticeships Awards for its commitment to training its workforce.
Chief executive Graham Honeyman said: “The company places great store in training apprentices. Many of our roles require bespoke training as they are so specialised but the rewards always come back to the business by the sheer talent that these young people bring to the company.
“The new intake can look forward to a bright future if they are prepared to put in the hard work. We are seeking very dedicated individuals for these roles and have already seen a healthy response to the vacancies.
“We believe a return to traditional apprenticeships and their values is considered vital to the health of Forgemasters and to British industry.”
Forgemasters is currently training 64 apprentices from a total of 811 employees for roles in all departments across the company, just under 8% of the workforce.
In 2010, more than 250 applicants applied for apprenticeship vacancies at Forgemasters and 22 apprentices started foundation degrees with local universities to achieve technician status.
