Appointments: Promotions at Shulmans; President role for Atteys solicitor; and more

COMMERCIAL solicitors Shulmans has promoted four of its staff to associate through its bespoke career development scheme.
Shulmans’ Progression in Practice initiative (PIP) is designed to evaluate each individual against specific criteria, continuously developing a bespoke plan intended to guide them to each stage of their career progression.
Lee Stephens joined the employment team last year and is the firm’s most recent recruit to be made associate.
Kathryn Wood joined in 2001 as a property paralegal.
Jennifer Chambers completed her training contract with Leeds-based Shulmans in 2007 before being appointed as a solicitor in the corporate and commercial team.
Rob Lucas, who works in the commercial team specialising in intellectual property and IT, has also been made an associate.

ALEX Kennedy, a solicitor at South Yorkshire legal firm Atteys, has been elected as president of Barnsley Law Society.
Barnsley Law Society is a professional association offering support, training and social activities to solicitors practising in the town and surrounding areas.
It deals with legal issues affecting the Barnsley area and last year lobbied against the threatened closure of Barnsley County Court.
Ms Kennedy is based in Barnsley, where she has been part of Atteys Solicitors’ family team since qualifying in 2007.

BARCLAYS Corporate has hired relationship director Julian Batson to add to its local authority offering in Yorkshire.
Mr Batson, who already has responsibility for Barclays Corporate’s relationships with the some of the local authorities and Government agencies in the region, will join a nationwide team of 34 specialists providing increased, local-level support to authorities.
As a result, Barclays Corporate will become one of the only banks to offer a locally-based specialist providing financial support and advice to authorities across the UK.
