ATTIK to move from Yorkshire to the capital

ATTIK, the Yorkshire-based creative agency, is to move its Leeds headquarters to the UK’s capital marking its return to London.

Co-founder James Sommerville said that there would be “some redundancies” within the 12 strong workforce as a result of the move but that relocation and remote working opportunities were being offered.

The graphic design agency, which was founded in 1995 in a Huddersfield attic, closed its original office in London in 2001 after economic challenges prompted founders Simon Needham and Mr Sommerville to scale back operations.

Despite the set-back, the company continued to attract major clients including Coca-Cola, Adidas and Toyota and built a thriving office in Holbeck, Leeds.

In 2007, ATTIK became a subsidiary of Dentsu, one of the world’s largest advertising agencies, which has its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

Mr Sommerville said that Dentsu was making a significant investment in ATTIK and that meant a move back to London.

“London is Europe’s centre of gravity and so it’s important to be in the capital,” said Mr Sommerville.

“Of course we will always be connected to Yorkshire but from a business perspective we have to be smart and therefore it makes sense to invest our time and resources in our capital city.”

He said that the new operation would represent something entirely new by virtue of everything learned over the firm’s 24 year journey.

The new office is expected to open in January next year.
