New managing partner for DLA Piper’s Sheffield office

RICHARD May is to step up to become office managing partner at DLA Piper’s Sheffield office following Steve Sly’s promotion to a global role.

Mr May, partner and current head of corporate in Sheffield, will take over from Mr Sly on September 1.

Mr Sly has relinquished his position to take on the role of international group head for DLA Piper’s litigation and regulatory practice.

David Bradley, DLA Piper’s UK managing partner, said: “I would like to thank Steve, both personally and on behalf of the firm, for his wonderful contribution to the Sheffield office and to wish him well in his new challenge.

“We are fortunate to have Richard May in place to take on the office from Steve. He is an excellent lawyer and extremely well connected locally and nationally.

“Richard has played an integral part in the development of the office in recent years; he is and will be a great ambassador, client facing partner and leader within the firm.”

During his time as office managing partner, Mr Sly was also a member of the firm’s board.

He said: “With a clear vision of where our opportunities and challenges lie, Richard is an experienced leader who will now focus on bringing further success to the Sheffield office. I look forward to seeing the team continue to develop and grow under his leadership.”

Mr May added: “Steve has made a substantial contribution to the Sheffield office and has been consistently passionate about its people, its involvement in the community and the work it undertakes across the region and beyond.

“Our Sheffield team has made huge steps under his leadership. With a host of specialist skills and services to assist clients, we are well-placed to build on these foundations and will continue to focus on further development and growth to ensure we maximise Sheffield’s potential.

“I joined the Sheffield office as a trainee solicitor in 1995 and I am immensely proud to be asked to lead the office 16 years later.”
