Building Briefs: Tesco in Filey; New lease for Eton; Recruits in at Carter Jonas; and more

PLANS for a long-awaited retail food store in Filey that could create 180 jobs and boost the economy have been given the go-ahead.

The Leeds office of DPP, a national firm of independent town planning consultants, has won planning permission for a Tesco store that will incorporate a number of vital environmental initiatives.

The retail food store, with associated car parking, highway works and landscaping would be situated on the town’s Station Avenue.

LAW firm hlw has acted on behalf of Eton Clothing to secure a 10-year lease on new premises in Sheffield.

The independent fashion store, which specialises in international designer wear, has opened theunit at The Point development in the city centre.

Sheffield-based hlw worked to secure the ground floor unit, comprising 1,950 sq ft of purpose-built retail space, on an initial 10-year lease.

PROPERTY consultant Carter Jonas has added two recruits to its Yorkshire team.

Rachel Hinchliffe joins Carter Jonas’ York office as a graduate rural surveyor, while the firm’s Huddersfield office has taken on Hayley Manton as part of her studies at Harper Adams University College.

Focusing on private estate management, Ms Hinchliffe, an active member of the Young Farmers Club, said: “I am really pleased to join Carter Jonas’ rural division and to be based in York. Carter Jonas is one of the leading rural agencies in the county and I can’t wait to work with such a diverse range of clients.”

Ms Manton will be based at the Savile Estate full time as assistant land agent during her placement year of her Rural Enterprise and Land Management degree.

HESLOP & Platt, the Leeds-based law firm which specialises in French law, has celebrated its first anniversary with a move to larger premises.

The relocation for the Leeds-based firm follows a successful year for the firm which provides French legal advice to English speaking clients in the UK as well as to British nationals living in France.

THE Leeds office of Colliers CRE has been appointed as the retained property advisors to menswear company The Baird Group. 

The Baird Group’s core activity is as a retail concessionaire and high street store operator.  It offers a diverse range of menswear products operating at all levels of the market. 

Headed up by Tom Cullen, director of retail agency in Leeds, the instruction will also be dealt with by David Halliday, associate director of commercial lease consultancy in Leeds. 

The remit will cover instructions such as acquisitions, lease renewals, rent reviews and international consultancy.
