Couple raise glass to vineyard visitor centre

A YORKSHIRE wine producer has opened a new visitor centre, allowing its owners to increase the number of wine tours and tasting sessions they offer.
Holmfirth Vineyard, established by husband and wife team Ian and Becky Sheveling in 2008, has completed the new facility thanks to funding provided by HSBC’s commercial banking team.
The duo have hand-planted 7,000 vines of five different grape varieties across seven acres.
To keep up with growing customer demand, Mr and Mrs Sheveling, who have appeared in a television documentary about their venture, developed their plans to build a visitor centre, comprising a tasting lounge and restaurant, and an eco lodge containing seven self-catering underground apartments.
Ian Sheveling, co-founder of Holmfirth Vineyard, said: “It is really exciting to see the visitor centre up and running after so many months of planning.
Jill Hague, HSBC area commercial director for Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield, said: “We’re delighted to have supported Holmfirth Vineyard with its plans for continued growth.
“Domestic wine production is a fast growing market, with an increased awareness and interest boosting sales, but Ian and Becky have recognised the opportunities beyond growing grapes and producing wine.”
The centre was officially opened with a tasting event attended by 75 people.
