Borders to close today

THE Borders bookshop chain is to close all its branches, including those in Yorkshire, today after its administrators failed to find a buyer for the stricken business.

Administrators MCR said all jobs – around 1,150 at 45 Borders and Books Etc stores – will be lost.

However, MCR said that despite being unable to sell any part of the business as a going concern, it is hopeful of selling the assets of the business.

The closure follows a popular closing down sale.

Borders has suffered from increased competition from online retailers and supermarkets.
