Yorkshire firm leads ‘green renaissance’

GRASS Concrete, the Wakefield-based eco-products firm, said it is enjoying a “green renaissance” as demand for its services increase.

The firm is seeing growing interest in its Grasscrete product as demand for sustainable drainage solutions or flood defences becomes a priority.

More than 100 projects have been carried out this year alone including the installation of 9,391sq metres of the Grasscrete system as part of the Cobbins Brook Flood Alleviation Scheme close to Waltham Abbey in Essex.

Grasscrete is often used for slope protection works whatever the sector, be it highways, rail or rivers.

A single vast Grasscrete slab provides a continuously reinforced structure with none of the stability problems that can be a factor with pre-cast types.

The system can be soiled and seeded throughout with a ribbed profile within the soil pocket to help anchor roots against erosion.

The system has also been used across the world including Tanzania and Hong Kong.
