Care developers launch JV for latest acquisition

Care home provider Burlington Care and development company Lovel have joined forces to develop more care facilities in East Yorkshire.

The two companies have entered a joint venture which has already overseen the refurbishment of Alderson House in Hull, which will be followed by the construction of a new care home in Hessle.

Alderson was closed more than two years ago but will open officially in the next two weeks after the acquisition and refurbishment of the site by the joint venture company Burlington Lovel. Upon completion it will create 35 jobs initially, increasing to 50, and adding to Burlington Care’s total workforce of 1,200.

It has acquired 10 homes in the past three years as part of ambitious expansion plans after launching in 2007. It now operates 16 across Yorkshire as well as in Darlington and Scunthorpe.

Richard Hoggart, managing director of Burlington Care, said: “Our vision is to create and develop care homes, with a combination of building new facilities and remodelling existing care homes that are not working.

“We started expanding again in 2014 and ran some homes that were in receivership and needed support. We were brought in to rescue them and we have been acquiring homes continually since then.”

Lovel Developments specialises in delivering large scale housing and health facilities. Last year the company completed the construction of a new building for Spire Hospital in Anlaby.

Managing director Philip Lovel said: “People are living longer and they are going to need more care. There is an opportunity and a need for good quality operators. Burlington Care know how to run care homes successfully and we have a lot of experience on the development side.

“Alderson House had closed as a care home so we acquired it, putting in considerable investment to reconfigure and improve the facilities. Burlington Lovel will now work on extending this property and on building a new facility at Hessle. We are also looking at other development opportunities in the area.”
