Food poisoning outbreak hits 4-star seaside hotel

Claims are being made against 4-star Brockley Hall Hotel in North Yorkshire after a food poisoning outbreak.
Leeds law firm Milners, based at Whitehall Waterfront, is acting on behalf of seven people who allegedly fell ill after dining at the AA-rosette restaurant at the seaside hotel in Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
Environmental health specialists are being called in to investigate after the seven suffered the symptoms of food poisoning following a 40th birthday celebration on Friday July 7. Three were hospitalised, including the birthday girl.
Milners has been approached by another guest of the Brockley Hall Hotel restaurant and expects the number of reported cases to rise.
Giles Ward, senior partner at Milners and its Head of Litigation, is representing all of them in their potential claims for personal injury as a result of their illness. All had consumed the same dish.
He said: “This should have been a birthday to remember and it was – but sadly for all the wrong reasons.
“We are instructed that the illness suffered by those who had been dining there was really quite severe, with three members of the party having to be hospitalised. Even now, they have not fully recovered from its effects.
“Their number one hope now is that the source of the illness is pinpointed as soon as possible, and that action is taken to prevent any further spread.
“They do not wish others to suffer the same alarming experience and level of harm that they allege they endured.
“We all welcome the fact there is now an independent investigation being carried out by Public Health England’s North East Health Protection team, in partnership with environmental health experts from Redcar and Cleveland Council and the hotel itself.
“There are a lot of questions that remain unanswered at the moment – and our clients hope that this investigation will demystify and pinpoint the cause of their sickness.”
