Detailed plans for a £55m redevelopment of the M621 Leeds have been released ahead of a public consultation.

The options being explored to improve the busy commuter route include improvements between junction 1 and 7, additional lanes at points along the route and more signage which will improve the information drivers receive, said Highways England.

Three redevelopment plans have been put forward – A, B and C.

Option A involves seven proposed changes, including:

Introducing free flowing connections between the M621 and A643 at junction two
Adding an additional lane to the roundabout at junction two
Adding a second lane through junction three westbound
Altering junction three to give priority to traffic on the M621

Options B and C include all the changes proposed under option A plus additional alterations.

A consultation is now taking place which will run for six weeks, from Monday 4 September to Sunday 15 October, for people to give their views.

Highways England project manager Sarah Kearns said: “This is an exciting scheme that will help improve motorist’s journeys and cut congestion in Leeds.

“We look forward to people coming along to these events to find out more and have their say.”

If approved, the project is due to start in 2020.
