Chesterfield packaging firm secures eight-figure funding deal

Chesterfield-based packaging company Robinson says it is planning to expand in the UK and overseas with the help of an eight-figure funding package from HSBC.

Robinson says it will use the cash to buy new manufacturing plant and machinery and to help stay at the forefront of packaging innovation.

The business, which pioneered the classic Smarties tube in 1956, has been designing and manufacturing packaging for over 175 years across multiple sectors, including food, drink, toiletries, cosmetics and household products.

Guy Robinson, finance director & company secretary at Robinson, said: “We’re very proud of our history here at Robinson, we’ve been a market leader in packaging for many years. However, to remain a market leader we have to look to the future and this requires significant investment in the latest technology. HSBC’s financial backing helps us cement our long term position as a leading plastic packaging designer and manufacturer.”

Guy Rothery, HSBC’s relationship director for West & South Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to support this historic business with its future development plans both at home and abroad. Robinson has designed and manufactured some of the most recognisable packaging products for over a century. We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship.”
