Uber suspension lifted in Sheffield

Sheffield has lifted a suspension on taxi firm Uber’s operating license after it provided answers to questions raised by Sheffield City Council about the firm’s management.

Uber’s licence was suspended in the city after it failed to respond to queries. Uber said it had not received the correspondence the council referred to as it had been sent to the wrong address.

A council spokesperson said: “This decision follows productive discussions between Uber and Sheffield City Council.”Uber provided satisfactory replies to the questions asked by Sheffield City Council about the management of Uber.

“The new application, made by Uber in October,  to operate private hire cars in Sheffield is being considered and a decision will be made in early 2018.”

Uber has welcomed the move – which comes as York refused to renew the taxi firm’s licence, citing concerns about a data breach and the number of complaints received.
